Privacy Policy
This policy describes how HoverDeck handles information in the HoverDeck iPhone app and on hoverdeck.app. It is written for the people who fly with the app. Contact support@hoverdeck.app if you want this in another form, or if you want the operator’s legal name and postal address.
The short version
- Location is used on your device to build a forecast for a place you check. We do not sell it, and we do not use it for advertising.
- An account is optional. If you create one, you can use email or Sign in with Apple. Profile preferences you save are stored so they can follow you.
- HoverDeck Pro is purchased from Apple with StoreKit. We never see your card number.
- We do not sell personal information, and the app does not include third-party ad tracking.
- You can delete an account in the app.
Who we are
HoverDeck is a flight-conditions forecast for small unmanned aircraft. “HoverDeck,” “we,” and “us” mean the operator of the HoverDeck app and this website. The product contact is support@hoverdeck.app.
Location
When you check conditions for where you are standing, HoverDeck reads location on your iPhone and uses it on the device to request the forecast. You can refuse location permission in iOS Settings. You can still forecast a place you select in the app.
Without an account, HoverDeck does not keep a server-side history of where you have been. Places and other preferences stay on the device unless you save them to an account, as described below.
We do not sell location. We do not use it to build an advertising profile, and we do not use Apple’s advertising identifier to track you.
Forecast requests and data sources
A forecast has to ask someone who has the data. For the place you are checking, the app sends the coordinates that the query needs:
- Open-Meteo (opens in a new tab) for weather, including wind, gusts, and the hourly and daily picture.
- NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center (opens in a new tab) for space weather, including the Kp index.
- FAA sources for airspace awareness and temporary flight restrictions, including the public information behind tools such as TFR listings (opens in a new tab) and B4UFLY (opens in a new tab) .
Those providers receive the location as the subject of the request. Their own terms and privacy practices apply to what they do with a query. HoverDeck does not attach an advertising identifier to those requests, and we do not sell the fact that you asked.
Forecasts can be delayed, incomplete, or wrong. Airspace and restrictions can change after a screen is drawn. The app is a planning aid. Official FAA sources control if they disagree with HoverDeck. See the safety terms.
Accounts
An account is optional. You do not need one to check a forecast on the device. If you create an account, you can sign up with an email and password, or with Sign in with Apple.
Authentication and the account database are provided by Supabase (opens in a new tab) . If you use email, Supabase Auth stores the password in a hashed form we cannot read back as a password. Do not send a password to support.
If you use Sign in with Apple and choose Hide My Email, we receive Apple’s private relay address, not the email on your Apple ID. We use that address to operate the account and to reply if you write to us from it. Sign in with Apple is covered by Apple’s privacy policy (opens in a new tab) as well as this one.
We use the account to recognize you, keep the preferences you save, and respond when you contact support about that account.
Profile preferences
If you save profile preferences to your account, we store them. That can include units, job mode, and places you choose to keep. Saved places are locations, and they are stored with the account so a later install can show them again. If you are signed out, preferences you have not saved to an account remain on the device.
Purchases
HoverDeck Pro is sold through Apple’s App Store using StoreKit. Apple processes the payment. HoverDeck does not receive your card number, bank details, or full payment account.
Apple may tell us a limited purchase record, such as whether a subscription is active, so the app can unlock Pro. Apple keeps the transaction under its own terms. Canceling and refunds are handled in your Apple ID subscriptions and through Apple’s refund process. Deleting the app, or deleting a HoverDeck account, does not by itself cancel a subscription.
What we do not do
- We do not sell personal information.
- We do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we do not “share” it as that word is used in the California Consumer Privacy Act.
- The app does not include third-party advertising or cross-app tracking SDKs.
- This website does not set analytics cookies and does not run advertising pixels.
Apple may collect device diagnostics under Apple’s own policy when you use iOS or the App Store, and Apple may provide crash reports to us. We use those reports to fix the app. We do not use them for advertising.
The website
hoverdeck.app is a static site. It does not ask you to create an account, and it does not run a tracker. Your browser will request the pages and assets you open, which means the host (Cloudflare, when the site is deployed) sees ordinary connection data such as IP address and the page requested, as part of delivering the site. Emails you send to support@hoverdeck.app contain whatever you put in them. We use those messages to answer you, and we keep them as long as we need to for that conversation and for ordinary business records.
How long we keep information
Account information and saved profile preferences are kept until you delete the account, or until we delete them because the account is unused and we no longer need them to provide the app. Forecast queries that were never stored are not kept by HoverDeck as a location history. Support email is kept while the conversation is useful and for a reasonable period afterward.
Account deletion
You can delete your account in the app. Deletion removes the account and the profile preferences stored with it from our active systems. We do not keep a separate copy for our own marketing. Supabase may retain encrypted backups for a limited time under its own backup cycle, and those copies age out. Apple keeps its own records of App Store purchases. Deleting the account does not cancel HoverDeck Pro. Cancel the subscription in your Apple ID settings if you do not want it to renew.
If you cannot use the in-app deletion, email support@hoverdeck.app from the address on the account and ask us to delete it. We may need to confirm it is your account before we do.
Children
HoverDeck is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, email support@hoverdeck.app and we will delete it.
Where information is processed
We and our providers, including Supabase and the forecast sources above, may process information in the United States and in other countries where those providers operate. Those countries may not have the same data-protection laws as the country where you live. We use this access to provide the forecast, the optional account, and support.
Your choices and rights
You can:
- Turn off location for HoverDeck in iOS Settings.
- Use the app without an account.
- Choose Hide My Email when using Sign in with Apple.
- Delete your account in the app.
- Cancel a subscription in your Apple ID subscription settings.
- Email support@hoverdeck.app to ask what account data we hold, to correct it, or to delete it.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we rely on contract (to provide an account or subscription you asked for) and on legitimate interests (to produce the forecast you requested, to keep the service secure, and to answer you). You can object, request access, ask for correction or deletion, and complain to your supervisory authority. Please contact us first so we can help.
If you are a California resident: we do not sell or share personal information, and we do not use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics for advertising. Location is used to produce the forecast you request. You may email support@hoverdeck.app to request access to or deletion of account information. We will not discriminate against you for exercising those rights.
We respond to privacy requests within 30 days.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will post the new version on this page and change the “Last updated” date. If a change materially affects an account we already hold, we will provide a clearer notice in the app or by email when we have a practical way to reach you.
